Bulgaria extended its contract with Westinghouse for the new nuclear units
However, according to the schedule adopted by the National Assembly, its completion was expected in June of this year
The project company Kozloduy NPP - New Capacities and Westinghouse Electric Company have signed an annex to the previous contract for the construction of the 7th and 8th nuclear units at the Bulgarian nuclear plant. The American company has an agreement for preliminary engineering activities (FEED) for the construction of the AP1000-type reactors.
The news about the continued cooperation came from the Bulgarian Ministry of Energy, without specifying what the continuation is and what the new terms are.
The FEED contract between the American company and the Kozloduy NPP to explore the possibilities of building a new reactor using American technology was signed in June 2023. According to the schedule adopted by the National Assembly, however, its completion was expected in June this year. This has not been realized, which is probably what necessitates the continuation of the contract.
The ministry only stated that "the continued engineering of the new nuclear facilities confirms the progress made in the implementation of the key design phase".
After the completion of the activities under the contract, engineering services related to the design, licensing, project management, and engineering development of the Kozloduy NPP site are expected to be provided for the deployment of two new 3+ generation AP1000 nuclear units.
